Siddi three almost done

So close and loving the process
Would like to work in all solids using embroidery thread for stitching. I made this with flowers from Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Margaret fabrizio used bright roses on one of hers and I loved how they anchored the corners. Her videos on you tube are so inspiring

Number three about 45 by 60 is almost done.

learning siddi construction.

+almost done with siddi number two. these are so much fun to make. piecing and quilting at the same time. have found two other batting pieces to use. Lots of ideas for some more. have been using three strands of embroidery floss, also aurifil number 12 and some white number 8 pearl cotton. All seem to work well. The bohn  needles number 7 works the best and is easy to sew. ppushing the fabric onto the needles instead of pushing the needle is becoming easier.  actually excitedd to see in the next couple of days this will be done.

Showing a pic of finished Siddi piece. I started another one that’s about 45 x 45. You can see some pics in previous post. Have almost finished stitching second one. Loving doing the piecing and quilting at the same time. Ordered aurifil size 12embroidery thread and bohn 7 needles. Made getting through the layers so much easier.

The pieces are added from outside in. You lay the backing down and put the batting on top. They should be about the same size.  The stripes have seam allowances turned . You just keep working your way around.the seam allowance from the backing and the seam allowance turned under from the strip make up the outside edges. I did use regular sewing thread and appliqué sharp needles to baste the two edges together when I first started.

A little discipline

Starting again. Have all the retired time in the world and remind myself every day. BUT still don’t do it .I watched a video on you tube by joe Cunningham and he introduced Margaret Fabrizio and her Siddi quilts. A few days before this The Quilt Show had a segment on Siddi Quilts by Sumatra Shah. I was hooked and started a small piece to understand the construction. Wow it worked. All hand done. A couple of screw ups. Had to do a regular binding because of needle and thread problems.
